Top motoring events to visit in summer 2017

Petrolheads have a wealth of car shows to choose from this year, with everything from the latest offerings to antique ‘motorcars’ and motorsport to motorcycles, you’ll not miss out whichever event you choose. Here are Oaks Services’ best picks for 2017.

Formula 1 British Grand Prix
Silverstone, 14-16 July

Let’s start with the daddy of British motorsport events. Like all the best motor racing action, you don’t have to be an F1 buff to appreciate the thrill and soak up the atmosphere of the Silverstone British Grand Prix. Simply set down your folding chair, put on your ear defenders are prepare for world-class racing action.

CarFest North and South
Cheshire & Hampshire, 28-30 July & 25-27 Aug

Whatever you think of Chris Evans’ time as a Top Gear presenter – he organises one of the best car shows in the UK and has done since 2012. All proceeds go to the BBC Children in Need appeal, so your amazing family day out even raises money for a worthy cause. Live music from no other than Manic Street Preachers and Kaiser Chiefs means the weekends in July and August 2017 will both be absolute screamers.

Land Rover Owner International Show
Peterborough, 16-17 Sept

If you’re into rough stuff when it comes to motoring, the Land Rover Owners International show in Peterborough is a must see. Whether you want to see off-road action or are coming for the discounts on thousands of Landy parts you won’t find anywhere else, you’re guaranteed a great time and a chat with other Land Rover and off-roading enthusiasts.

London to Brighton Veteran Car Run
London and Brighton, 5 Nov

If you prefer cars that age like fine wine – getting better and more interesting with each passing year – the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is for you. The cars taking part in the 54 mile run are on average 112 years old. They’re still going strong, however, and have been since 1896 when the first run took place to celebrate the ‘Locomotives on the Highways’ Act. To see the forefathers of your family hatchback at their best, we recommend heading to London to watch as the motorcade passes in front of many famous landmarks.

Classic Motor Show
Birmingham, 10-12 Nov

Get out of the November rain and get your car fix by heading to the NEC in Birmingham for the Classic Motor Show. Previous years have seen over 2000 classic cars and 300 classic motorcycles alongside hundreds of traders. The Wheeler Dealer hosts will be doing live restoration demonstrations in the theatre and there’s a two day auction if you have a car-shaped hole in your garage to fill. Attendance by the UK’s biggest car clubs means there are hundreds of petrolheads around to meet as well.
